Andy Warhol

Lindsey, Lauren and I met way back on the multicolored carpet of Kindergarten and have remained friends ever since. A fact that when I really stop and think about it, is really quite impressive.

Our friendship has moved beyond holiday gifts and knocking on doors at each other's homes. It is assumed that any item of clothing is up for grabs and regardless of how long it's been since our last conversation, we always pick up right where we left off.
It's a relationship I cherish.

On a rainy day in January, we finally got the chance to celebrate our "Christmas" with a trip to the Andy Warhol exhibit at MOCA followed by dinner at Faith & Flower. The rain was a special treat, and the exhibit was pretty darn cool.

All of which is so much more memorable than a sweater in a box.

Joshua Tree Video

As promised, the accompanying video from the Joshua Tree birthday extravaganza!

The music is by Clayton Joseph Scott, a LA local artist whom I discovered up returning the vans. Clayton's CD had been left in the van and I hit the CD button after unsuccessfully trying to turn on the radio. After rocking out on the drive back to the rental place, I promptly went home and purchased his album off itunes. He is kind of my new fave.

Photo Dump: Joshua Tree

Back in the beginning of January I turned 28.
A pretty adult age.
I guess.
I wanted to do something different for this birthday. Not another night out at a bar, or restaurant, or house party. Those birthdays, while always a good time, seem to simply blend together.
This year was going to be different.

With a lot of thinking and a little luck, things and people and dates all fell into place to make for a two day, one night slumber party in Joshua Tree. Right smack on my birthday weekend.
We fit 10 people in two camper vans, one van named Sherbet and the other Wild Wild West. I'm not even kidding. We had two drivers, one incredible chef, one party planner, one navigator and the rest entertainment. Two additional friends and two additional dogs met us out there. And it was epic.
I can't even express to you how special it was to see so many of my favorite people out there, in the middle of nowhere (kinda), bonding, laughing and eating together.
It just made my heart swell.

In no particular order, here are a few of my favorite photos from Joshua Tree.

Thank you to all for making this birthday oh-so memorable!

Video to come.

Weekend Update

For the first time in a long time I had a weekend with zero concrete plans.
Aside from the things I wanted to do, like, sleep-in, go to yoga and play outside, I had nowhere to be and no one to see. As the hours blended together in the best possible way, I managed to fit in lots of good food, a few True Detective episodes and a long walk in our gorgeous weekend weather.

Highlights included...

-1-
A Friday night cookie emergency.

-2-
Beers and buffalo wings in support of a co-worker's 30th birthday.

-3-
Scenes from my "winter" walk.

-4-
The most incredible 1pm brunch at Fish Bar.
The Lobster Hash is unreal. Bloody Mary too.

-5-
Sunday afternoon flat white at Two Guns.

Words

For what it's worth:
It's never too late or in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be.
There is no time limit, stop whenever you want.
You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing.
We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it.
And I hope you see things that startle you.
I hope you feel things that you never felt before.
I hope you meet people with a different point of view.
I hope you live a life you're proud of.
If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

Weekend Update

A little late, but...
spent this last weekend playing in the California winter sun. Worked in a hike to Griffith Observatory and as many outdoor meals as possible.

Highlights included...

-1-
A Friday night birthday party that brought together girls from soccer days, high school and college.

-2-
The best Vietnamese food from Gingergrass after our hike.

-3-
The view from Sunday brunch.

-4-
A birthday party at Medieval Times.
We filled an entire school bus with beer and 20-somethings, headed back in time to watch jousting while we ate with our hands and drank out of massive mugs.
'twas a glorious evening.

Happy Birthday, Matty!

2015

Welcome, 2015!

A lot has happened since starting this blog almost five years ago.
As someone who thinks of her life as relatively "even keel", it amazes me to look back through the posts of this space and see, really see, all that I have experienced.
New places, new people, mistakes, goals, heartbreak, belly laughs.
Life.

This past year, without question, was for me one of the most difficult thus far, while simultaneously resulting in an enormous amount of growth. Since then, I have found myself (silly as it sounds) sticking up for myself in lots of ways, and it is oh-so-refreshing. Deliberate is my word for 2015 (my version of a New Year's resolution) and now more than ever, I am working on being deliberate in what I do and why I do it. Filling my time with people and activities that are enjoyable and meaningful to me.

One of the things I was desperately missing was a creative outlet. I love blogging. Writing. Editing pictures. I truly believe there is really something valuable about taking the time to put words to pictures. Conjuring up captions and anecdotes forces one to put thought and meaning behind the simple snapshot in time. An act that gets exponentially more valuable over time.

I am eager to revisit this space, find my voice again, perhaps revamp the space, and more than anything, force myself to take a moment and add stories to the thousands of pictures that fill my digital devices.

Can't wait to see what the future posts will hold.

Cheers to fresh starts!

Kate
