Sayonara Summer

Over night, the weather has turned from sweating to sweatshirt wearing weather. And I am not quite ready to let summer go. Last week Debs and I made an impromptu trip to the beach. We spent the day playing in the waves and writing in the sand. I was looking at these pictures last night and realized how much they so accurately define where I am in my life right now.
living abroad.
hangin with my best friend in Japan.
rainbow witnessing.
beach lover.

I am not quite sure what my next move will be,
but I hope this 20-something girl always stay with me.

I have had a bit of a sad week this week. I think I am in my post vacation blues stage. That, and I just miss my Dad. Of all people, he would have loved to hear all about what I did on my vacation.

But things are looking up. Tonight I am going to dinner with friends, Jessica is coming Saturday(!!!), and at school we have our annual Sports Day and enkai this weekend which means no work Monday!

Here are a few things that have been making me happy this week.

flowers to brighten up my entrance.
halloween napkins from mom.
random notes like this from my mom.
i chuckled.
my dogeared bracelet from megan.
thanks megan!
from jessica. this makes me smile on so many levels.
a taste of home.
this makes me laugh out loud every time i read it.
my best thai curry yet.

Speak Out

Yesterday, Namiko and I took 9 students to neighboring Abiko City to compete in our districts speech contest. We spent the entire morning hearing speeches form different students. While the judges to deliberated the ALTs got up on stage to tell the students a bit about us, and take questions from them.

Big 3rd Years.
Waka, Miyuki and Nanasa.
We rocked out to my ipod the whole drive over.
1st Years.
Maika and Ando.

Oliva, Kim, Kate and Kris.
No idea what I'm doing.
When it was all said and done, we had two kids win second place in their division. They were thrilled! We took a few group photos, and I gave everyone a lollipop with a little not tied around it. They all worked so hard, they deserved it.

SEA: Korean Moment

a large part of the reason i went to visit jessica in korea, aside from the fact that we're such good buddies, was to celebrate her recent engagement! while i was there, her friends had planned an all day engagement/bachelorette type party. this had been weeks in the making, and with all the coordination of her moving apartments within korea and my roaming around asia, we had logged some serious logistical planning time. so by the time the day actually rolled around, it's safe to say, we were both pretty stoked.

the night before, after dancing to whitney houston and watching bridesmaids, obviously, jessica and i picked out our party clothes. well, she knew what she was going to wear, but i had to borrow something since everything i had was either a bathing suit or neon colored, all of which screamed tourist. she settled on a white dress, very appropriate we decided, and i picked one that could almost have passed as a bridesmaid dress, which we also deemed appropriate.

the day of celebration consisted of everything from, brunch to trying on wedding dresses, to dinner and clubs in the evening. the girls did an awesome job planning, and what was even more impressive was the fact that we all kept the activities a secret from jess. well done everyone!

bride to be.
vogue status.

after brunch, it was off to a place called princess diary. where young girls, and sometimes their boyfriends, come to dress up in wedding dresses and take tons of pictures. with props. never in the states would any boyfriend be willing to dress up in a tux and pose for fake wedding pics. we didn't quite understand it. only in asia.

drinks before dresses.
this was happening around us.
and then it was jessicas turn! the lady took her in and jess picked out a dress to try on while we anxiously waited, cameras ready.

after dress fun, we headed to an awesome chinese restaurant for dinner before hitting the town. jessica's friend megan, who had organized everything, had planned for us to hit up a few of jess's favorite bars and clubs. and the theme of all these shenanigans? WIG OUT! we all bought wigs and dressed in black, while jess wore white, and made our way through seoul, causing quite a stir in the process. *the pictures on the street were taken by the lovely lisa. so nice meeting you, lisa!

it was such a grand day! congrats again jessica, we are all so very happy for you and patrick!

love you friend,

and with that last picture of us and a few random koreans, that concludes my SEA installment. i hope you enjoyed it, i had such a great time creating it!
